Sometimes, all an idea needs to take off is some physical space with the necessary facilities. A room with a large table, chairs, whiteboard and a beamer is certainly of benefit.
UM has plenty of these rooms available and tries to make them available to their students. It is important to know that rooms are handled by the individual faculty or organisation and therefore different rules apply for booking. For example, many faculties only allow the booking of rooms for their own students.
You can start here to read about how UM handles room booking.
The following overview provides you with faculty-specific information on the number and types of rooms available for bookings:
The e-roombooking service is a great first start to searching for a room. It shows the options of most faculties.
A general tip is to go to, call, or email the front desk of your faculty. The staff working there can certainly redirect you to the right person who has access to the room booking system of the faculty to make a room on a regular basis available for your needs. This also counts for lecture halls. Next to the faculties, the libraries (inner city and Randwyck) as well as EDLab and Tapijn might offer space that you can use for a meeting. Also here, best to contact the front desk directly.
Lastly, you might want to organise a larger event - such as a movie screening, lecture or even a conference. If the options at UM are not available or do not suit your needs, there are plenty of other options in the city (though they are usually not free). For a complete overview, check:
Remember that the bigger the group you want to host, the higher the security needs are, such as the obligation to have a person with a BHV certificiate present at your event (you need at least one person with a BHV certificate per every 50 participants).
For a flex office space outside of the UM premises, you can likewise find plenty of options in the city. Depending on the size of your group and the regularity of your meetings, there are costs associated with these spaces. Examples of structural space are 'ROOOMS', QESKE or 'De Werkplaats'.
When it comes to fixed office spaces, hence a room that you can 'make your own', the offer is way smaller. The SSC hosts a couple of student organisations, but most of them are integral part of their organisations such as INKOM, the SPT or the MUSST. For now, there are no available office & storage spaces until further notice.
